INDIGENOUS SEED DEVELOPMENT FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

INDIGENOUS SEED DEVELOPMENT FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

Seeds are not just planting materials for propagation, for rural communities, they have an extended social and spiritual relationship with their seeds. Seed is also an aspect of power such that if you control seeds you will be subjugating farmers to your dictates. The purpose of the training is to provide knowledge and skills with respect to indigenous seeds in the context of food sovereignty. Farmers say that, “Seed is life and indigenous seed is our pride and heritage”. Through peer learning and complementary skill training this manual is intended to enhance the skills of participants in promoting indigenous seed development. The training enhanced the leadership capacities of trainees and contributes to improving their ability to affectively lead women in developing the seed sector within their own cultural context.
